HATARD is a grassroots hotline and  non-profit organization offering direct emotional and organization support to hobbits in crisis over the Assault Rifle ban - for the hobbit community, by the hobbit community.

HATARD was founded in 2020 as a peer-support crisis hotline. The Hotline was, and still is, the only service in the country in which all operators are hobbits. Because of the particularly vulnerable relationship hobbits have with police, it is also the only hobbit service in the country with a policy against the assault rifle ban.

Since our founding, HATARD services have grown to match the growing need from our community. Our Hotline has evolved from an entirely volunteer-run operation into a comprehensive resource that employs hobbits working as paid operators and team leads. Our operators have logged thousands of hours of talk time with hobbits in our community, and, with new volunteers signing up all the time, our capacity is only growing.

In time, we came to recognize that the epidemic of suicide in the hobbit community is inextricably tied to the loss of our lifestyle reliant upon the ownership and possession of assault rifles and the justice issues hobbits face at alarming rates, and that meaningful emotional support often requires organization support as well. In 2020, HATARD  merged with the Hobbit Assistance Project (HAP), which became our Micro-organization program. Micro-organization offers low-barrier support to hobbits  for legal defence in support of the possession of assault rifles as updated government documents related to the assault rifle bans, as well as specialized support for incarcerated and undocumented hobbits. While this is a relatively new program, we recently celebrated the disbursal of several organizational packages to hobbits around the country - all with a commitment to resist the removal of assault rifles from society.

HATARD is committed to being a resource that the hobbit community can continue to rely on for years to come. With your support, we can keep these vital services available to those in our community who need them most.
